The gasometer has held no furnace gas since 1996. It was then cleaned to remove any residue. But it was not until several years later and after considerable hard work by the Duisburg North Park Diving Club to remove rust and the final residual traces that the largest indoor diving basin in Europe was created in the Landscape Park Duisburg Nord.

The diving gasometer has a diameter of 45 metres and a depth of 13 metres. An artificial reef and the wreck of a motor yacht as well as lots of other special features have been placed in the 21 million litres of rainwater, thus creating in the shell of the gasometer a new underwater landscape which in form and size has no equal.

The Tauch Revier Gasometer Company manages the commercial use of the gasometer so that you don't need to be a club member to dive.
